Turntables of Yesteryear

VS the new ones

An awful lot of people want to know what makes the best set of turntables for DJs and I get asked this question all the time. In truth though, it's a number of things that make the best set and as a pro DJ for over 20 years in the States I will talk you through some of those things now. But first let's just take a look into the changes that have occurred in the world of DJ equipment of the last 10 or 15 years since the invention of the compact disc.

Putting You in The DJ Equipment Picture

So let's put you in the picture. I have been deejaying for a long time, and back in my day, we were limited to wax records only. This meant that the sound quality is not really as pure as it is on mp4s or even on CD turntables. But it's that scratchy sound that so many Djs prefer even to this day. Personally speaking, I'm okay with using both kinds of turntable. But my absolute favorite set of decks has to be the 1210s. I'm kepy my sets well over the years despite being dragged around to many many gigs over the years.

Pioneer Never Disappoint

However, last year I did take the plunge and fork out for a new Pioneer DJ controller. It is awesome I must say and I kind of go through phases of using the Pioneer and then going back to using the Technics. So it's kind of great to have both really. Then which mood you're in you can grace the best dj turntables and smash it! In terms of mixing, I don't mind using either as well, and the same with scratching, it really is personal opinion. But, that said, make sure that you do a bit of research on some good guide sites out there as it's very easy to waste some of your money. And if you get it right, your investment will last you for many years ahead as has mine. I'm very pleased with both as I have said. Keep a good balance to your DJing.
